The U.S. Justice Department has unsealed five separate indictments against alleged senior leaders of Mexico’s Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche announced on Wednesday.
Blanche said the charges target individuals believed to hold high-ranking positions within the cartel, one of Mexico’s most powerful criminal organizations. The indictments form part of the U.S. government’s broader effort to disrupt transnational drug trafficking networks and prosecute those responsible for cartel related crimes.
Authorities are expected to provide further details on the charges and the defendants as legal proceedings move forward.
