The Emir of Fika in Yobe State has said that military operations alone cannot bring a lasting end to Nigeria’s security challenges, stressing the need for a broader strategy that addresses the root causes of violence and instability.

The traditional ruler noted that while the efforts of the military and other security agencies remain essential in combating terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities, sustainable peace can only be achieved through a combination of security measures, dialogue, good governance, economic empowerment, and community engagement.

He urged governments at all levels to complement military operations with policies that promote education, job creation, social inclusion, and improved living conditions, particularly for young people who are vulnerable to recruitment by criminal and extremist groups.

The emir also called on community leaders, religious institutions, and citizens to work closely with security agencies by providing credible information and supporting peace-building initiatives within their communities.

According to him, lasting security requires a collective national effort in which government institutions, traditional authorities, civil society, and local communities all play active roles in addressing the underlying factors driving insecurity.

His remarks add to the growing calls for a comprehensive approach to tackling Nigeria’s security challenges, combining military action with social, economic, and governance reforms to achieve lasting peace.
