At Least Seven Killed as Passenger Bus Bursts Into Flames in Southern Vietnam

At least seven people were killed and several others injured after a passenger bus caught fire while travelling through southern Vietnam, authorities said, prompting an investigation into the cause of the deadly blaze.

The fire broke out on Tuesday as the bus was travelling along a highway in southern Vietnam. Witnesses said flames spread rapidly through the vehicle, trapping several passengers before emergency responders arrived at the scene. Firefighters later extinguished the blaze and recovered the victims.

Local authorities said multiple passengers sustained injuries, with several taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials have not yet released the identities of those killed, pending notification of their families.

Police and transport officials have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Preliminary reports did not immediately indicate whether the blaze resulted from a mechanical fault, a traffic collision or another factor.

The accident temporarily disrupted traffic as firefighters, police officers and medical personnel worked at the scene. Authorities said the damaged bus would undergo a technical inspection as part of the investigation.

Road accidents remain a major safety concern in Vietnam despite efforts by the government to improve traffic enforcement and vehicle safety standards. Officials urged transport operators to ensure regular maintenance of passenger vehicles to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
