Diplomatic efforts to address Myanmar’s ongoing political and security crisis have continued as an ASEAN envoy engages with opposition groups and other stakeholders in an attempt to revive dialogue.
The discussions are part of wider regional efforts to encourage negotiations and reduce violence in Myanmar, where fighting between the military government and armed opposition groups has continued since the 2021 military takeover.
The ASEAN representative is seeking ways to promote communication between conflicting parties and explore opportunities for humanitarian assistance and a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
Myanmar’s conflict has created a severe humanitarian situation, with millions of people affected by displacement, insecurity and limited access to essential services.
ASEAN has previously called for an end to violence and urged all sides in Myanmar to engage in inclusive dialogue. However, efforts by the regional bloc have faced challenges due to disagreements among key actors and continued fighting on the ground.
The latest diplomatic engagement comes as neighbouring countries push for a stronger regional response to the crisis and renewed efforts toward stability in Myanmar.
