The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has warned President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress against assuming that financial inducements will secure northern votes in the 2027 general elections.
Baba-Ahmed made the statement in a post on his Facebook page on Sunday, October 18, 2026, where he accused the President’s supporters of underestimating voters in Northern Nigeria.
He questioned what political leaders campaigning for Tinubu’s re-election would tell residents of Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, Kwara, Kaduna, Plateau, Kogi and Nasarawa states about the administration’s performance.
According to the PRP chairman, northern voters would not necessarily abandon their grievances against the government in exchange for money during the election campaign.
He alleged that supporters of Tinubu and the APC were preparing to distribute large amounts of money to influence voters, warning that such a strategy could fail to deliver the expected political support.
Baba-Ahmed said northern residents were citizens whose voices and dignity deserved recognition, insisting that financial inducements should not determine their political choices.
He also warned against any attempt to manipulate election results, arguing that the outcome of the 2027 presidential election must reflect the decisions made by voters at the polls.
“If we reject the APC and Tinubu, nobody should attempt to manipulate or overturn the outcome of the election,” he said.
The PRP chairman further challenged supporters of the President and the ruling party to prepare for a competitive electoral contest, expressing confidence that voters would have the opportunity to demonstrate their preferences.
His comments come as political parties and prominent politicians intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with discussions about alliances, campaign strategies and the performance of the Tinubu administration gaining momentum.
The APC has continued its preparations for the next election, while opposition figures have criticised the government over economic hardship, insecurity and other national concerns.
However, Baba-Ahmed’s remarks represent his political position and do not establish how northern voters will ultimately vote in 2027. The region comprises diverse communities and political interests, and the election outcome will depend on voters’ decisions and the conduct of the electoral process.
