The Independent National Electoral Commission has begun early preparations for the 2027 general elections by inaugurating a multi-agency logistics committee to coordinate the timely movement of election materials and personnel across Nigeria.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, announced the initiative in Abuja, stressing that no eligible voter should be disenfranchised because of delays in the delivery of election materials. The committee is expected to strengthen planning, improve coordination and address transportation challenges ahead of the polls.

The committee will assess warehouses, vehicles, airports and seaports, identify operational weaknesses and develop strategies for transporting sensitive and non-sensitive election materials by road, air and sea. It will also consider difficult terrain, weather conditions and security risks that could disrupt election preparations.

The committee’s chairperson, Rear Admiral Jamila Malafa, said the team would review previous elections, identify logistical gaps and recommend measures to improve the deployment of election officials and materials.

INEC has also called on the National Orientation Agency to intensify voter education across the country. The campaign will target communities, markets, schools, places of worship and traditional institutions to encourage citizens to participate in the elections.

The commission identified voter apathy, vote buying and electoral violence as major concerns. It urged eligible voters to verify their registration status, collect their Permanent Voter Cards and participate peacefully.

National Orientation Agency Director General Lanre Issa-Onilu said the campaign would use local languages, radio discussions, community dialogues, drama and digital platforms to reach Nigerians across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The early logistics planning is intended to improve coordination among electoral officials, security agencies, transport operators and other government institutions ahead of the 2027 polls.
