Patrick Clancy, the former husband of Lindsay Clancy, has spoken publicly for the first time since her murder trial ended in a mistrial, recounting the devastating loss of their three children and his efforts to rebuild his life.
In an interview broadcast on 60 Minutes, Clancy discussed the events surrounding the deaths of Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months, in Massachusetts in January 2023. His former wife had been accused of killing the children before attempting to take her own life.
Lindsay Clancy’s defence argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and should not be held criminally responsible for the killings. The trial ended on September 4 after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict. Eleven jurors reportedly supported the defence position, while one juror disagreed, resulting in the mistrial.
Patrick said he had noticed significant changes in Lindsay’s mental health months before the tragedy, including severe sleep deprivation, depression and intrusive thoughts. He said he did not fully understand postpartum mental illness at the time and believed he had done the best he could with the knowledge available to him.
He also said he had forgiven Lindsay, explaining that he believed mental illness contributed to what happened. His youngest child, Callan, survived for several days after the attack before dying in his arms.
Patrick further addressed conspiracy theories that circulated online during the trial, including accusations against him. He described them as harmful and said they distracted from the wider issue of perinatal mental health.
The case remains unresolved, with prosecutors yet to announce whether Lindsay Clancy will face a retrial. A court hearing is scheduled for September 29 to address the next steps.
