Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has said the gathering of people connected to the historic Kwararafa heritage is not intended to promote division among Nigeria’s ethnic groups, but to strengthen national unity, peace and development.
Kefas stated this during the maiden national summit of the Kwararafa Development Forum held in Abuja, where traditional rulers, political leaders and other stakeholders from communities associated with the Kwararafa heritage gathered to discuss their shared history and aspirations.
The governor said the initiative was based on a common heritage and should be used to promote peaceful coexistence and national integration rather than sectional interests.
Kefas explained that his participation was not an official programme of the Taraba State Government, but a reflection of his connection to the shared heritage of the people involved.
He said the gathering represented an opportunity for people with Kwararafa roots to draw lessons from their history and use them to contribute to peace and national development.
“We are not out to threaten other ethnic nationalities,” Kefas said, stressing that the initiative was not a political organisation but a platform through which members could contribute to peace and development.
He added that people connected to the Kwararafa heritage have contributed to Nigeria in various fields, including agriculture, entrepreneurship, politics and the military.
The summit also featured the signing of the Abuja Declaration and the presentation of a Kwararafa Compendium, while traditional rulers and representatives from several states called for greater cooperation, inclusion and development among communities linked to the heritage.
The organisers said the gathering was intended to strengthen relationships among the various communities while creating a platform for addressing shared challenges and contributing to Nigeria’s development.
