President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has linked the continued growth of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals complex to the economic reforms being implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Dangote said the reforms had created a more supportive policy environment for investment, domestic industrialisation and efforts to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products.
In a statement on Wednesday, he said the refinery’s progress was closely connected to policies that were giving businesses greater certainty to plan, invest and compete.
According to him, the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen local refining capacity, improve energy security and encourage value addition have contributed to the performance of the refinery and the wider economy.
Dangote also pointed to ongoing fiscal, monetary and regulatory reforms, saying they had helped improve macroeconomic stability, productivity and Nigeria’s attractiveness as an investment destination.
He said the impact of the reforms was becoming increasingly visible through stronger economic activity, improved investor confidence and increased industrial productivity.
“While every reform process comes with initial challenges, the benefits are increasingly evident in stronger economic indicators, improved business confidence, and renewed investor interest in Nigeria,” Dangote said.
The Dangote refinery has emerged as a major component of Nigeria’s strategy to increase domestic refining and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products. The facility has also expanded its export activities, supplying refined products to markets outside Nigeria.
Dangote said the refinery’s increasing production capacity and expanding export footprint were contributing to Nigeria’s economic recovery through foreign exchange generation, employment creation and the development of local supply chains.
The company’s integrated industrial complex also includes petrochemical and fertiliser operations, which Dangote said were contributing to the broader objective of building a more self reliant economy.
He said the combination of private sector investment and government policy reforms could unlock greater opportunities for economic growth and industrial development.
The businessman reaffirmed Dangote Industries Limited’s commitment to investing in strategic sectors, promoting innovation and supporting employment creation.
He said the company’s investments in refining, petrochemicals, fertiliser and other industrial activities were aimed at supporting Nigeria’s economic transformation while strengthening the country’s productive capacity.
The remarks come as the Federal Government continues to defend its reform programme, which includes changes to fuel subsidy arrangements, foreign exchange management and other aspects of the economic policy framework.
The reforms have attracted significant investor interest but have also generated considerable pressure on households and businesses through higher prices and operating costs.
For the industrial sector, however, greater policy consistency and improved access to foreign exchange could provide a more predictable environment for long term investment.
Dangote said sustained reforms, policy consistency and stronger collaboration between government and the private sector would be critical to attracting more investment and positioning Nigeria as a major industrial and economic power.
He expressed confidence that continued implementation of the reforms would further strengthen investor confidence and support investment led growth.
The refinery’s expansion and increasing participation in domestic and international markets therefore represent a significant test of Nigeria’s broader industrialisation strategy, particularly its ability to convert large scale private investment into stronger production, exports, employment and economic growth.
