Jigawa, Bauchi Secure $4m Solar Mini-Grid Investment, to Benefit 100,000 People

Jigawa and Bauchi states are set to benefit from a $4 million investment in solar-powered mini-grids aimed at expanding access to reliable and affordable electricity in underserved communities.

The investment, provided by All On and Energise Africa, will support the development and deployment of solar mini-grids across 19 communities in the two states.

The project, which will be implemented by indigenous renewable energy company, Maskh Nigeria Limited, is expected to provide electricity to households, businesses and public institutions that currently have limited or unreliable access to power.

According to the project sponsors, about 100,000 people are expected to benefit from the initiative, which is being implemented under the Demand Aggregation for Renewable Energy Technology Programme.

Chief Executive Officer of All On, Caroline Eboumbou, said the project would help stimulate economic activities in communities where energy access remains limited.

She noted that the solar mini-grids would provide electricity for homes, schools, healthcare facilities and small businesses, while creating opportunities for productive use of energy and strengthening local economies.

Eboumbou said the investment demonstrated the importance of decentralised energy infrastructure in addressing Nigeria’s persistent electricity access challenges.

The Chief Executive Officer of Energise Africa, Ray Coyle, said the project would deliver lasting social, economic and environmental benefits by bringing clean and reliable electricity to the beneficiary communities.

Also speaking, Maskh Nigeria Limited’s Director of Operations, Qaim Mahmood, expressed appreciation to All On, Energise Africa and the Rural Electrification Agency for entrusting the company with the project.

Mahmood said the initiative would not only improve electricity access but also strengthen the capacity of indigenous renewable energy companies, create jobs and support businesses across the beneficiary communities.

The project is expected to contribute to improved access to essential services while reducing dependence on traditional and less sustainable sources of energy in the affected communities.
