The Kano State Government has announced plans to rehabilitate 10,000 drug users within one year as part of efforts to tackle substance abuse and its growing impact on communities.

The initiative will combine drug treatment and rehabilitation with skills acquisition and economic empowerment to help beneficiaries rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society.

The state government said the programme is designed not only to address addiction but also to provide recovering drug users with opportunities to become self-reliant and productive members of society.

Authorities are expected to work with relevant agencies and stakeholders to identify drug users who require treatment and support, while strengthening efforts to prevent substance abuse across the state.

The rehabilitation programme forms part of broader efforts to address the social and security challenges associated with drug abuse, particularly among young people.

The government also emphasised the importance of sustained rehabilitation and economic opportunities in preventing relapse and ensuring that those who complete treatment can successfully return to their communities.
