At least 10 members of the Niger State House of Assembly are reportedly set to defect from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

Sources familiar with the development said consultations between the affected lawmakers, their constituents and PDP stakeholders had reached an advanced stage.

The lawmakers are expected to formally announce their decisions after concluding consultations with their political allies and constituents.

The reported move comes shortly after former Federal Inland Revenue Service Chairman, Muhammad Nami, defected to the PDP and was adopted as the party’s candidate for the 2027 Niger State governorship election.

Nami, who previously sought the APC senatorial ticket for Niger South, is expected to strengthen the PDP’s challenge to the ruling APC in the state.

The possible defection of the lawmakers could significantly alter the political balance in the Niger State House of Assembly and further intensify the battle between the two major parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, the names of the lawmakers involved and the exact date of their expected defection have not been officially confirmed.
