The Adamawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to developing the livestock sector as part of efforts to strengthen food security, create employment opportunities and promote sustainable rural development across the state.
Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta stated this when she received the Minister of Livestock Development, Dr. Mukhtar Idi Maiha, who visited the state to commission a 40 million dose vaccine storage facility and other livestock development projects.
Receiving the ministerial delegation at the Government House in Yola, Professor Farauta commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its interventions in the livestock sector, describing the industry as an important component of the state and national economy.
She said the state government would continue to collaborate with the Federal Government to develop livestock value chains and provide the resources and enabling environment required to support livestock farmers.
The Deputy Governor also commended the Artificial Insemination Centre at Adamawa State University, Mubi, for its contribution to improving livestock production and called for strengthened extension services to enable farmers across the state to benefit from modern livestock management practices.
Earlier, the Minister of Livestock Development, Dr. Mukhtar Idi Maiha, highlighted the achievements recorded through the collaboration between the Federal and Adamawa State Governments in advancing livestock development.
Dr. Maiha said the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development was in line with President Tinubu’s vision of unlocking the economic potential of the livestock industry, modernising production systems and making the sector more profitable, sustainable and capable of contributing significantly to food security, employment and rural development.
The Minister reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to working closely with state governments and private sector stakeholders to transform the livestock industry and unlock investment opportunities across its value chains.
At the end of the engagement, Dr. Maiha presented three compendiums containing detailed investment roadmaps for the livestock sector to the Adamawa State Government, providing strategic direction for further development and investment in the industry.
