The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Plateau State University chapter, has declared a total and indefinite strike over the alleged failure of the university management to address its six point demands.
The union announced the industrial action on Wednesday after its Congress meeting, following the expiration of a 14 day ultimatum issued to the university administration on August 11.
According to the statement signed by the ASUU PLASU Chairperson, Vincent D. Choji, and Secretary, Lomka Kopdiya, the union said none of its major demands had been satisfactorily resolved.
The demands include commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme, full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government and ASUU agreement, payment of arrears from January 1, 2026, and 22 months’ arrears of the 25 and 35 per cent wage award.
The union also demanded safe and secure staff quarters, construction of trenches around the university perimeter fence and an end to what it described as intimidation of union leaders.
ASUU PLASU said the strike followed approval by the union’s National Executive Council, directing members to suspend all academic activities until further notice.
