The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for stronger community support and intelligence-led policing to address security challenges in Zamfara State.

The IGP made the call at a security summit in Zamfara, where security agencies, government officials, traditional leaders, community representatives and other stakeholders discussed strategies for improving security across the state.

He stressed the importance of timely and credible intelligence in preventing crime, identifying threats and responding effectively to security incidents.

According to him, the fight against insecurity cannot be left solely to security agencies, noting that communities have a critical role to play by providing useful information on suspicious activities and individuals.

The police chief urged residents to strengthen cooperation with law enforcement agencies and avoid actions that could undermine ongoing security operations.

He also emphasised the need for improved coordination among security agencies, community leaders and other stakeholders to ensure that intelligence gathered at the grassroots level is properly analysed and translated into effective action.

The summit provided an opportunity for stakeholders to examine the security situation in Zamfara and develop practical approaches to tackling banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality affecting communities across the state.

The IGP further encouraged traditional and religious leaders, youth groups and other community-based organisations to support efforts aimed at building trust between residents and security personnel.

He said sustained collaboration, intelligence sharing and community participation would remain crucial to achieving lasting peace and stability in Zamfara.

Participants at the summit expressed support for a more coordinated security framework that places communities at the centre of intelligence gathering and crime prevention.
