Police Arrest Robbery Suspect in Anambra, Recover Arms

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 49 year old suspected armed robber, Chima Ogumba, in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was arrested on the morning of August 17, 2026, by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, during an operation in the area.

Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives recovered one pump action gun and 50 live cartridges from the suspect.

According to the police, Ogumba could not provide a satisfactory explanation for his possession of the firearm and ammunition.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Nnanna Oji Ama, has ordered a thorough investigation to determine the suspect’s possible involvement in armed robbery and other criminal activities.

The police also said the investigation would establish the source and intended use of the recovered firearm and ammunition.
