The Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, has led principal officers, lawmakers and management staff of the Assembly to a specialised capacity building training organised by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
The training is aimed at strengthening the capacity of members and staff to improve legislative effectiveness, constituency representation and oversight functions of the Assembly.
According to the organisers, the programme focused on strengthening legislative practice, including bill drafting, parliamentary procedures and committee operations in line with best practices.

Participants were also exposed to improved approaches to constituency representation, with emphasis on strengthening engagement with communities and ensuring that the concerns and needs of constituents are effectively reflected in legislative activities.
Another major focus of the training was oversight, particularly the ability of the legislature to effectively scrutinise government activities, promote accountability and ensure proper implementation of approved budgets.
The participation of the Adamawa State House of Assembly delegation is expected to further strengthen the institution’s capacity to deliver effective legislation, improve representation and enhance accountability in governance.

The training also underscores the Assembly’s commitment under Speaker Wesley’s leadership to continuous professional development and stronger legislative institutions in Adamawa State.
