Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has announced plans to construct 48 new staff quarters at the Specialist Hospital Yola as part of efforts to improve the welfare of medical personnel and strengthen healthcare delivery in the state.
Governor Fintiri disclosed this while inspecting the proposed site for the residential facilities at the hospital, noting that the project would provide decent, safe and modern accommodation for doctors, house officers and other healthcare workers.
The Governor said the initiative was part of his administration’s broader investment in healthcare infrastructure and the welfare of medical personnel.
He explained that the Specialist Hospital Yola is currently serving temporarily as a teaching hospital following its conversion, pending the completion of the medical college under Adamawa State University.
According to him, the temporary arrangement has increased the need for adequate accommodation for medical personnel attached to the facility.
Fintiri noted that the existing residential structures within the hospital premises had become dilapidated and unsafe, making their replacement necessary.
He said the old structures would be removed to make way for modern staff quarters designed to provide a safer and more comfortable living environment for medical workers.
The Governor expressed optimism that the project would improve staff morale and create better conditions for doctors and other health professionals to perform their duties effectively.
He disclosed that construction would commence once contractors are mobilised to the site and is expected to be completed within seven to eight months.
Governor Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in healthcare infrastructure and creating an enabling environment for medical personnel to deliver quality services to the people of Adamawa State.
He said the new accommodation would not only improve the welfare of healthcare workers but also contribute to the ongoing transformation of Specialist Hospital Yola into a modern healthcare and medical education facility.
The proposed 48 unit staff quarters are therefore expected to replace the old residential structures while supporting the state government’s broader efforts to strengthen healthcare services and retain qualified medical personnel in Adamawa State.
