The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has responded to reports alleging that it froze the bank account of the Osun State Government, clarifying its position amid growing public and political reactions.
The anti graft agency explained that its actions, where applicable, are guided strictly by the law and are carried out in the course of investigations into allegations of financial crimes. The commission emphasized that it does not arbitrarily freeze government or private accounts without following due legal processes and obtaining the necessary court approvals where required.
The clarification comes after reports and political statements generated widespread debate over the status of the state’s accounts and the implications for government operations and public service delivery.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to investigating cases of alleged financial misconduct without fear or favour, stressing that all individuals and institutions remain subject to the rule of law.
The commission also urged the public to avoid speculation and rely on official statements regarding ongoing investigations, noting that misinformation could undermine public confidence in the nation’s anti corruption efforts.
Political stakeholders have continued to express differing views on the matter, with some calling for transparency in the investigation while others insist that anti corruption agencies should be allowed to perform their constitutional responsibilities without interference.
The development has drawn national attention as discussions continue over accountability, due process and the role of law enforcement agencies in investigating allegations involving public institutions.
