The Emerging Africa and Asia Infrastructure Fund (EAAIF) has committed 83 million dollars to support the construction of 728 telecommunications towers across Nigeria, a move aimed at strengthening digital connectivity and expanding network coverage in underserved communities.
The investment is expected to improve mobile and broadband services by increasing telecommunications infrastructure in areas with limited or unreliable network access. Industry experts say the project will enhance digital inclusion, support economic growth and improve access to communication services for millions of Nigerians.
According to stakeholders, the deployment of the new towers will help mobile network operators improve service quality, reduce congestion and extend coverage to rural and semi urban areas where connectivity gaps remain significant.
The project also aligns with Nigeria’s broader digital transformation agenda by promoting greater access to internet services, supporting financial inclusion and enabling businesses to leverage digital technologies for growth.
EAAIF noted that investments in telecommunications infrastructure remain essential to driving sustainable development, attracting private capital and supporting innovation across key sectors of the economy.
Analysts believe the initiative will create employment opportunities during the construction and operational phases while enhancing the resilience of Nigeria’s digital economy through improved telecommunications infrastructure.
The project represents another major private sector investment in Africa’s digital infrastructure, reflecting growing investor confidence in the continent’s expanding telecommunications market and the increasing demand for reliable broadband connectivity.
