Falling drone debris sparked a fire in an industrial area of Ufa, the capital of Russia’s Bashkortostan region and a key oil refining centre, regional authorities said on Wednesday.
Governor Radiy Khabirov said air defences repelled a drone attack targeting industrial facilities. He confirmed that debris ignited a fire in the industrial zone, which emergency crews were working to extinguish, but did not identify the affected site.
Ukraine has previously targeted an oil refinery in Ufa as part of its campaign against Russia’s energy infrastructure, aiming to disrupt fuel supplies and weaken Moscow’s wartime logistics.
Since launching its full scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia has repeatedly attacked Ukraine’s energy facilities and critical infrastructure. On the same day, Russian ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv and surrounding areas killed at least 17 people and damaged warehouses and logistics centres used by major retailers.
