The Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG) has commended the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), describing the initiative as a strategic platform for improving Nigeria’s global image and strengthening the country’s leadership role across Africa and other developing nations.

According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the President of the group, Chief Dominic Ogakwu, made the remarks during a debriefing ceremony for 14 Nigerian volunteers who returned after completing a 24 month technical assistance mission in Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau.

Ogakwu said the programme has continued to project the positive side of Nigeria by deploying skilled professionals to countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, thereby bridging educational and professional gaps while enhancing the country’s international reputation.

He described NTAC as a practical demonstration of Nigeria’s position as the “Giant of Africa,” adding that the achievements of Nigerian professionals abroad have continued to showcase the country’s vast human capital and leadership potential.

The CSGGG President called for increased government and private sector investment in the scheme to expand the number of volunteers deployed, noting that strengthening the programme would further enhance Nigeria’s image and protect the interests of Nigerians globally.

He also recalled that previous beneficiaries of the programme had excelled in their host countries, with one Nigerian volunteer reportedly rising to the position of Vice Chancellor of a foreign university.

Speaking with NAN, one of the returning volunteers, Dr Abdullah Isah, described the assignment in Guinea Bissau as a life changing experience, saying it reinforced his belief that Nigeria remains one of Africa’s leading countries in education, culture and professional development despite the challenges faced by some host nations.

Also speaking, Dr Nkiruka Uche, a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the National Obstetric Fistula Centre, Abakaliki, praised the Federal Government and the management of NTAC for providing Nigerian professionals with opportunities to contribute to development in other countries.

The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps, an agency under the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, deploys qualified Nigerian professionals to African, Caribbean and Pacific countries at the request of host governments to provide technical assistance in health, education and other critical sectors.
