Iran Confirms Oman Talks on Temporary Strait of Hormuz Shipping Route But No U.S Talks

Iran’s Foreign Ministry says it is holding talks with Oman to establish a temporary safe passage for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, while stressing that it is not currently engaged in negotiations with the United States.

Iranian officials said discussions with Oman are focused on creating a temporary maritime route to ensure the safe movement of ships through the strategic waterway, one of the world’s busiest energy shipping corridors.

The Foreign Ministry emphasised that the talks are limited to shipping arrangements and should not be interpreted as broader diplomatic negotiations with Washington. Iranian state media also indicated there are no ongoing direct talks between Iran and the United States at this stage.

Shipping sources reported limited vessel movement along a lane close to Oman’s coastline, suggesting some commercial traffic has resumed despite continued security concerns in the Gulf.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one fifth of the world’s seaborne oil exports normally pass, has remained under intense scrutiny following weeks of military confrontation between Iran and the United States, disrupting global shipping and increasing energy market volatility.

Regional governments and international maritime agencies have continued to urge restraint and the protection of commercial shipping, warning that any prolonged disruption to the waterway could have significant consequences for global energy supplies and international trade.
