Ariana Grande will take a break from public appearances after completing her Eternal Sunshine Tour next month and has withdrawn from a planned London revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George, her representatives have confirmed.

The 33 year old singer will step back from public facing work following the tour, citing the intense public scrutiny she has faced in recent years. Her representatives said she wants to finish the tour “healthily and happily” before taking a well earned break.

The production company behind the 2027 Barbican revival confirmed that Grande would no longer appear alongside her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey, saying it fully supports her decision and wishes her well. The production will proceed as planned, with Bailey remaining in the cast.

Grande’s physical appearance and health have been the subject of public speculation in recent years, a conversation that intensified following the release of her latest album, Petal. The album’s promotional video portrays a performer facing harsh criticism over her appearance before ultimately confronting her critics.

Fans responded to the announcement with messages of support, helping the hashtag #WeLoveYouAriana trend on social media. Grande is scheduled to conclude her tour with 10 performances at London’s O2 Arena, ending on 1 September.

The Barbican Centre said it hopes to welcome Grande in the future when the time is right, while additional casting details for the musical will be announced at a later date.
