The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially published the personal particulars and supporting documents of presidential candidates and their running mates for the 2027 general election.
The publication, carried out in accordance with the Electoral Act 2026, includes candidates’ personal information, academic qualifications, affidavits, and other relevant documents submitted during the nomination process. The documents have been displayed at INEC offices across the country to enable public inspection.
INEC said the exercise is part of its commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and credibility in Nigeria’s electoral process. Members of the public and interested stakeholders are encouraged to examine the documents and raise any legal objections through the appropriate channels within the timeframe provided by law.
The release of the candidates’ particulars marks another significant step in preparations for the 2027 general election, following the completion of party primaries and the submission of nomination forms by political parties.
With election campaigns scheduled to begin later this month, attention is expected to shift toward policy debates, campaign activities, and voter engagement as candidates intensify efforts to win public support ahead of the polls.
INEC has reiterated its commitment to conducting a free, fair, transparent, and credible election, urging political parties, candidates, and voters to comply with electoral guidelines and contribute to a peaceful democratic process.
The publication of candidates’ credentials provides Nigerians with an opportunity to scrutinise those seeking the country’s highest office before campaigns commence, reinforcing the commission’s commitment to openness and electoral integrity.
