Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to stop attributing Nigeria’s current economic and governance challenges to previous administrations.
Reacting to recent remarks by the President, Atiku said that after spending a significant period in office, the Tinubu administration should accept full responsibility for its policies and performance rather than continue to blame former President Muhammadu Buhari and other past leaders for the nation’s difficulties.
According to Atiku, Nigerians expect practical solutions to pressing issues such as inflation, unemployment, insecurity, and the rising cost of living. He argued that leadership requires accountability and decisive action, not continued references to inherited problems.
The former presidential candidate maintained that while every administration inherits challenges, it is ultimately judged by its ability to address them effectively. He called on the Federal Government to focus on implementing policies that improve the welfare of citizens and restore confidence in the economy.
The Presidency has consistently maintained that many of Nigeria’s current economic difficulties stem from long-standing structural problems and policy decisions inherited from previous administrations. Government officials have defended ongoing reforms, saying they are necessary to stabilize the economy and lay the foundation for long-term growth.
The exchange adds to the growing political debate over responsibility for Nigeria’s economic situation as opposition figures continue to scrutinize the Tinubu administration’s performance.
