Nigerian sprint sensation Miracle Ezechukwu has declared that competing alongside some of the world’s top athletes this season has boosted her confidence as she targets success at the World U-20 Championships following an impressive start to her 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign.
The young sprinter booked her place in the women’s 100m semi-finals after producing a commanding performance to win her heat in Glasgow.
Running from lane eight, Ezechukwu crossed the finish line in 11.32 seconds, securing automatic qualification alongside fellow Nigerians Blessing Ogundiran and Rosemary Chukwuma.
The victory marked a memorable debut at the Commonwealth Games for the teenager, who described representing Nigeria on such a prestigious stage as a dream come true.
“I’m grateful to God for this opportunity. Representing my country, my team and my family at the Commonwealth Games means everything to me. I’m just happy to be here,” she said.
Ezechukwu revealed she entered the race with confidence after studying the start list, insisting she remained focused despite the chilly weather conditions in Glasgow.
“When I saw the list, I believed I could do it. I just concentrated on my race. The weather was really cold, but once the race started, I forgot about everything and focused on running.”
While determined to make a strong impression in Glasgow, the promising sprinter admitted her ambitions extend beyond the Commonwealth Games, with the World U-20 Championships firmly in her sights.
“My major goals this season have always been the Commonwealth Games and the World U-20 Championships. Once I’m done here, my attention shifts to the World Juniors, and I believe I can win a medal there.”
The teenager believes her growing confidence stems from valuable experience gained this year at major international competitions, including the World Relays and the African Senior Championships, where she competed against established world-class athletes.
“Running against elite athletes has taught me a lot. It has given me confidence and helped me believe that I can compete with anyone. Every race has made me stronger mentally and physically.”
Having announced herself on the Commonwealth Games stage with an impressive victory, Ezechukwu will now focus on reaching the final in Glasgow before turning her attention to the World U-20 Championships, where she hopes to continue her rapid rise in international athletics.
