Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has engaged manufacturers, business leaders and operators of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in discussions aimed at advancing the state’s industrialisation agenda and strengthening its economy. The engagement brought together key players from the private sector to examine opportunities for investment, industrial growth, job creation and sustainable economic development across Plateau State.
Speaking during the meeting, Mutfwang emphasised the importance of collaboration between the government and the private sector in building a competitive and diversified economy. The governor said his administration was committed to creating an enabling environment that would support businesses, attract investors and encourage the growth of local industries.
He noted that the state’s industrialisation drive would require active participation from manufacturers, entrepreneurs and other business stakeholders. Mutfwang said the government was working to improve infrastructure and address challenges affecting businesses, including access to markets, financing, energy and other essential services.
He added that supporting MSMEs remained an important part of the administration’s economic development strategy, considering their contribution to employment generation, innovation and local production. The governor urged business leaders and manufacturers to take advantage of the state’s natural resources and investment opportunities to establish industries that would add value to locally available raw materials.
He said increased local production and value addition could help create more employment opportunities, improve household incomes and reduce dependence on imported goods.
During the engagement, participants discussed issues affecting the growth of industries and small businesses, while also identifying areas where stronger partnerships between the government and private sector could support economic expansion. Business leaders and MSME operators highlighted the need for improved infrastructure, easier access to financing and policies that would encourage investment and reduce the cost of doing business.
They also called for sustained government support to help local enterprises expand their operations and compete effectively. The governor assured the stakeholders that their contributions would be considered as the state develops policies and programmes aimed at promoting industrial growth.
He said the administration would continue to engage the private sector to ensure that government initiatives respond to the needs of businesses and support long-term economic development. The meeting is expected to strengthen cooperation between the Plateau State Government and the business community as the state seeks to increase investment, promote local industries and create more economic opportunities for residents.
Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a productive and business-friendly economy driven by innovation, entrepreneurship and private-sector participation.
