A 60 year old man has died after checking into a hotel with a 20 year old woman in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to a statement issued by the Jigawa State Police Command through its spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu, the deceased, whose identity was withheld, checked into the hotel alongside the woman before the incident occurred.
Police said the man reportedly developed a medical emergency shortly after requesting a meal while inside the hotel room. Officers attached to the Yalwawa Division responded to a distress call from the hotel and evacuated him to the General Hospital, Dutse, where he was examined by medical personnel and confirmed dead.
Shiisu said detectives secured the hotel room and conducted a preliminary search, recovering several items as exhibits. These included food, beverages, a suspected sex enhancement substance and other personal belongings, all of which have been taken into custody for forensic examination.
The police spokesperson said all necessary procedures were followed to preserve the recovered items as investigators work to determine whether any of them contributed to the man’s sudden death.
He added that the body has been deposited for further medical examination, including an autopsy, while investigations continue to establish the exact cause of death.
The police urged members of the public to refrain from speculation, assuring that further details would be released upon the conclusion of the investigation.
