Law officers in Kwara State have threatened to embark on an indefinite strike over the alleged non-payment of outstanding salaries, allowances, and other statutory entitlements by the state government.
The officers, under their professional association, expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as the prolonged delay in addressing their welfare concerns despite several engagements with the relevant authorities.
According to the association, members have continued to discharge their responsibilities diligently despite the financial challenges, urging the government to honour its commitments and settle all outstanding entitlements without further delay.
The law officers warned that failure to address their demands within the stipulated period could result in the withdrawal of legal services across government ministries, departments, and agencies, a move they said would affect the administration of justice in the state.
They noted that the planned industrial action was a last resort after repeated appeals and negotiations failed to yield the desired outcome.
Reacting to the development, the state government assured the affected officers that efforts were being made to resolve the issues through dialogue and promised to engage relevant stakeholders to prevent disruption of legal services.
The government reiterated its commitment to the welfare of public servants and appealed to the law officers to exercise patience while discussions continue.
Observers have expressed concern that a prolonged strike could slow down legal proceedings, delay government transactions, and impact the overall administration of justice in Kwara State.
