PARIS, July 13, — European leaders gathered in Paris on Monday for a high level summit aimed at reinforcing military and political support for Ukraine as Russia’s invasion enters another critical phase.
According to Reuters, The meeting, known as the Coalition of the Willing, brought together leaders from more than 25 countries, alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to discuss strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, expanding military assistance and increasing pressure on Russia through additional sanctions.
A key focus of the summit was improving Ukraine’s protection against ballistic missile attacks. Zelenskyy urged allies to accelerate the delivery of advanced air defense systems and support the joint development of new anti-ballistic technologies to better defend Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure. Leaders also discussed increasing defense cooperation through joint weapons production, expanding military training initiatives and strengthening Europe’s long term security framework. Senior defense officials and representatives from leading European defense companies participated in discussions on boosting the production of air defense equipment and missile systems.
The summit comes amid intensified Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine and growing concerns over regional security. European leaders reiterated their commitment to supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining a united international response to Russian aggression.
The Paris meeting also explored additional measures to curb Russia’s revenue through tighter sanctions, including efforts to further restrict the country’s oil exports and crack down on its so called “shadow fleet” used to transport crude oil in violation of international restrictions.
