The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Ibrahim Augustine, over the alleged killing of a 21-year-old man, Haggai Markus, following a disagreement over roasted meat in Mubi North Local Government Area of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, November 4, at Mararaban Vimtim, where the suspect and the deceased allegedly had a misunderstanding over roasted meat taken from a butcher’s table.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroji, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the police spokesman, the disagreement escalated when the suspect allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed Markus in the chest.

Nguroji said the incident was reported to the police at about 8.45pm by the deceased’s father, identified as Markus Gabo.

Following the report, police operatives attached to the Mubi North Division visited the scene and found the victim lying lifeless in a pool of blood.

The police recovered a sharp knife suspected to have been used in the incident, while the suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

The victim’s body was subsequently evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.

The command disclosed that the suspect, alongside the case diary, would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, commiserated with the family of the deceased and assured members of the public that justice would be served.

He urged residents to resolve disagreements peacefully and report disputes to the police rather than resorting to violence.
