President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fulfilled his financial reward pledge to Nigeria’s Super Falcons, with each player receiving the naira equivalent of $100,000 following the team’s historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed the payment, stating that members of the team’s technical crew and officials also received the equivalent of $50,000 each.

The payment completes the cash component of the presidential reward package announced after the Super Falcons secured their record-extending 10th continental title in July 2025.

NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, commended President Tinubu for fulfilling his commitment, describing the gesture as an important recognition of the team’s achievement and contribution to Nigerian sports.

The players had previously received title documents for their three-bedroom apartments in Abuja and certificates of the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

Tinubu announced the rewards at a presidential reception on July 28, 2025, following the team’s dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the WAFCON final in Rabat.

The Super Falcons had overturned a two-goal deficit, with Esther Okoronkwo converting a penalty before Folashade Ijamilusi equalised. Jennifer Echegini subsequently scored the decisive goal to secure Nigeria’s 10th title.

The fulfilment of the pledge comes amid renewed attention to athlete welfare and government commitments to rewarding sporting excellence.

The NSC said the payment would encourage Nigerian athletes to continue representing the country with confidence that their achievements would be recognised.
