Polish security authorities are investigating a possible plot to attack Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz after police received information about a potential assassination attempt.
The warning prompted an emergency meeting on Sunday, October 11, involving security officials, police and representatives of the Interior Ministry to assess the threat and determine the necessary response.
Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister coordinating Poland’s intelligence services, said authorities were treating the information with the utmost seriousness. He indicated that officials believed there was a high probability that the threats could be carried out, although he did not disclose details about the suspected plan or those potentially responsible.
Interior Ministry spokesperson Karolina Gałecka said the information initially reached the State Protection Service, which is responsible for protecting senior government officials, before being forwarded to the police.
The reported threat comes as Poland faces heightened security concerns following three violent incidents at schools in the central Mazovia region within four days. The incidents left one person dead and several others injured.
Poland has also expressed concerns about possible Russian hybrid operations intended to weaken Western support for Ukraine. However, authorities have not linked the reported plot against the two government officials to Russia or any other organisation.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not publicly identified any suspects or disclosed where or how the alleged attack might have occurred.
