The Federal Government says the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit will focus on practical measures to address infrastructure gaps, improve productivity and create more jobs as Nigeria seeks to turn recent economic reforms into broader improvements in living standards.
The summit, scheduled for October 26 and 27 in Abuja, will bring together policymakers, business leaders, economists, development partners and other stakeholders under the theme, “Growth that Works: Delivering Jobs, Productivity and Shared Prosperity.”
Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning Doris Uzoka-Anite said the gathering would be used to assess what is working in the economy, identify remaining gaps and develop practical recommendations for accelerating economic transformation.
Discussions will be organised around five priorities: Work Nigeria, Produce Nigeria, Invest Nigeria, Scale Nigeria and Secure Nigeria. The agenda covers job creation, industrialisation, investment, infrastructure, productivity, security and the development potential of states.
Infrastructure is expected to receive particular attention because inadequate roads, electricity, transport networks and other basic facilities continue to raise production and logistics costs for businesses.
The Nigerian Economic Summit Group has also called for stronger state-level efforts to attract private investment and develop regional value chains, arguing that economic opportunities should be spread beyond Nigeria’s major commercial centres.
The summit is therefore expected to place greater emphasis on implementation, with stakeholders seeking ways to connect investment and productivity with job creation and higher household incomes.
