Seligman Ventures has increased the amount of capital available to its venture investment arm to $1 billion, as growing demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure drives renewed interest in hardware-focused technology companies.

The Silicon Valley-based investment firm launched Seligman Ventures in February with $500 million. Since then, the firm has deployed more than $300 million across 14 investments, focusing on areas including AI hardware, connectivity and cybersecurity.

Seligman is targeting companies developing technologies needed to support the rapidly expanding AI ecosystem. Its investment areas include high-performance computing platforms, networking, semiconductors, data-center power and cooling systems, as well as cybersecurity technologies.

The expansion comes as investors increasingly look beyond AI software toward the physical infrastructure required to operate increasingly demanding AI systems. According to Crunchbase data cited by Reuters, venture investment in U.S. and Canadian startups reached $392 billion in the first half of 2026, including about $10.7 billion invested in semiconductor startups.

Seligman Ventures Managing Partner Umesh Padval said the firm has seen stronger deal activity than initially anticipated. The company plans to continue investing across different stages of development, including both early-stage startups and more mature companies approaching the public markets.

The move highlights how AI’s expansion is creating investment opportunities beyond software, with chips, networking, power, cooling and other infrastructure becoming increasingly important components of the technology ecosystem.
