The Kremlin said Thursday that additional US sanctions against Russia would make efforts to reach a peace agreement in Ukraine more difficult.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was monitoring a sanctions bill passed by the US House of Representatives, describing further sanctions as “unfriendly actions” that could complicate peace efforts.
The legislation targets Russia’s energy and defence sectors and its shadow fleet of oil tankers. It also gives President Donald Trump authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on countries including China and India that continue buying Russian oil and gas.
US led efforts to end the war have stalled in recent months, although Trump sent envoys to Moscow and Kyiv earlier this month to revive negotiations. India has warned that new US tariffs linked to Russian oil purchases could damage bilateral relations.
