Power outage hits Lekki, Ajah as 12 feeders go down

Electricity supply has been disrupted across parts of Lagos as a fault knocked out 12 feeders serving the Lekki, Ajah and Ibeju Lekki areas.

The affected feeders include Ibeju, Ajah Local 1, Medallion Data, Urban Prime, Main One, Maroko, Chevron, Oke Ira, Ikate Express, Ilasan, NTDA 1 and Eleko.

The disruption has also affected the VGC, Oke Ira and Agungi injection substations, leaving residents and businesses across several communities without normal electricity supply.

Eko Electricity Distribution Plc said the outage followed a fault within the electricity supply network serving the Lekki, Ajah and Ibeju Lekki axis.

The distribution company said it was working with the Transmission Company of Nigeria to restore the affected transformer and reconnect the feeders.

The company did not provide a definite timeline for complete restoration but said its technical teams were working to return supply to the affected areas as quickly as possible.

The outage is expected to affect households, commercial centres, offices and other businesses that depend on regular electricity supply across the rapidly developing corridor.

The Lekki Ajah axis has experienced increasing demand for electricity in recent years as residential estates, commercial facilities, technology businesses and industrial activities expand across the area.

For many businesses, prolonged outages can translate into higher operating costs as operators turn to generators and other alternative sources of power to keep their activities running.

Residents in the affected communities have also faced the familiar challenge of balancing interrupted public electricity supply with the rising cost of alternative power.

The latest incident comes amid continuing efforts by electricity distribution and transmission companies to improve the reliability of supply and reduce the frequency and duration of outages.

EKEDP apologised to customers affected by the disruption and appealed for patience while restoration work continues.

The company said further updates would be provided as efforts to restore electricity supply progress.

For residents and businesses in the affected areas, the immediate concern remains how quickly the fault can be resolved and normal supply restored.
