French authorities have warned consumers about hundreds of thousands of potentially unsafe condoms after laboratory tests found products that could burst or contain perforations.
The French anti fraud agency, DGCCRF, and the health agency, DGS, said on Friday that about 260,000 condoms sold through pharmacies and shops had been recalled following tests that identified safety risks in two products.
Authorities advised people who had used the affected condoms to undergo screening for sexually transmitted infections and take a pregnancy test if they missed a period.
The agencies also identified 30 condom product lines being offered on online marketplaces without the required EU conformity marking or French language labelling. About 1,000 boxes containing more than 40,000 condoms had already been sold.
Online platforms agreed to remove the affected listings, according to the authorities.
The warning included several brands, including products made by Japanese condom manufacturer Okamoto Industries, as well as My Lubie and Friday Bae, brands associated with French company Passage du Desir.
French authorities urged consumers to check whether their condoms are among the affected products and to stop using any products covered by the recall.
