The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, has seized 604.5 kilogrammes of cannabis during a raid on a notorious drug hub in the state.

According to a statement by the NDLEA,The State NDLEA Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this in Benin, saying the operation was carried out on August 5, 2026, at Ewe Luleha in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

According to him, operatives of the NDLEA, alongside personnel of the Nigerian Army, raided the suspected drug hotspot where they recovered 65 bags of dried weeds that tested positive for skunk cannabis.

He said the seized cannabis weighed a total of 604.5 kilogrammes, adding that the operation was part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to disrupt the distribution and trafficking of illicit drugs across the state.

Ofoyeju further disclosed that the command had launched a manhunt for a suspected drug kingpin identified as Sunday, who reportedly fled the area before the arrival of the security operatives.

“We are tracking the suspected drug kingpin who is in hiding following the recovery of the 604.5kg of cannabis,” he said.

The commander assured that the suspect would not escape justice, stressing that the agency was intensifying efforts to locate and apprehend him.

He therefore appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could assist security agencies in tracking down the fleeing suspect.

Ofoyeju also urged residents to support the fight against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking, noting that public cooperation remains crucial to tackling the activities of drug traffickers and protecting communities from the harmful effects of illicit substances.
