The race for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup is gathering momentum, with 18 of the 32 places at next year’s tournament already confirmed.
Brazil will host the expanded women’s football showpiece, with five confederations having already produced their qualified representatives. The remaining 14 places will be decided through ongoing qualification campaigns and the inter-confederation play-offs.
Africa will be represented by Algeria, Cameroon, Malawi and Morocco, who have all secured their places at the tournament.
Their qualification represents another significant step forward for women’s football on the continent, particularly for Malawi, who are set to make their mark on the global stage after their impressive rise in recent years.
Morocco will also return to the World Cup after securing qualification on home soil, while Algeria and Cameroon have earned their places among Africa’s representatives.
The Asian Football Confederation has filled all six of its available places.
Australia, China, Japan, North Korea, the Philippines and South Korea will represent Asia at the 2027 tournament.
The Philippines’ qualification is particularly notable as the country continues to make significant progress in women’s football and establish itself among Asia’s emerging forces.
Europe has so far confirmed four representatives: Denmark, France, Germany and Spain.
The European qualification race remains open, however, with seven more places still to be decided.
France, Germany and Spain head to Brazil with considerable international pedigree, while Denmark will be aiming to make a strong impression on the global stage.
New Zealand has secured Oceania’s only direct qualification place.
The Football Ferns will once again carry the region’s hopes at the world’s biggest women’s football tournament.
South America has also filled its direct allocation, with Argentina, Brazil and Colombia qualifying.
As hosts, Brazil automatically secured their place, while Argentina and Colombia earned qualification through the South American process.
Brazil will now prepare to welcome the world’s leading women’s football nations for what promises to be a landmark tournament on home soil.
With 18 teams already qualified, 14 places remain in the 32-team tournament.
Europe has seven places still to fill, while CONCACAF has four direct places available. The remaining three teams will qualify through the inter-confederation play-offs.
For the nations still battling for qualification, the margin for error is becoming increasingly small.
The 2027 Women’s World Cup is expected to bring together established powerhouses, emerging nations and ambitious debutants, with Brazil set to provide the stage for another major chapter in the rapid growth of women’s football.
