The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has introduced a Diaspora Mortgage Loan, a new financing initiative aimed at helping Nigerians living abroad achieve home ownership and invest in property back home.
The mortgage scheme is designed to provide eligible Nigerians in the diaspora with easier access to housing finance, enabling them to purchase, build, or complete residential properties in Nigeria. The initiative is expected to strengthen the connection between the diaspora community and the nation’s housing sector while expanding access to affordable mortgage financing.
According to FMBN, the programme reflects the bank’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of Nigerians regardless of their location. By creating a dedicated mortgage product for citizens overseas, the bank hopes to encourage greater investment in the real estate sector, increase home ownership, and support the Federal Government’s broader housing and economic development agenda.
The introduction of the Diaspora Mortgage Loan is also expected to boost confidence among Nigerians abroad by providing a structured and transparent pathway to property ownership, while contributing to job creation and growth within the country’s construction and housing industries.
Industry stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward leveraging diaspora investment to reduce Nigeria’s housing deficit and stimulate sustainable economic development.
